Finland's Lake District
Holiday Parks - Cabins, Lodges & Camping in Finnish Lakeland
Lakeland, known as the Finnish lake district, is the largest of Finland's 4 regions and contains most of Finland's 188,000 lakes and around 180,000 islands. Looking from above, the area looks like a blue and green spiders web of lakes, islands, rivers, canals and dense pine forests stretching from the central area to the east cost. Lakeland is home to Lake Saimaa, the country’s largest and Europe'sfourth largest freshwater lake with a surface area of 4,400 km². It's no wonder why this fabulous region is the number one tourist spot in summer with lakeside cabins and holiday parks being booked months in advance.
Lake Saimaa is Finland's largest lake and Europe's fourth largest natural freshwater lake. With a coastline of 14,000 km, and thousands of islands, Saimaa is a mecca for swimming, fishing, kayaking and boating. It was listed in the top 5 most beautiful lakes in the world by The Wall Street Journal in 2014 which is no surprise given it's a region of outstanding natural beauty.
With its massive network of waterways, the lake connects many large towns in the Finnish Lakeland such as Imatra, Lappeenranta, Mikkeli, Savonlinna and Varkaus. From your holiday park, you can easily get around and see these cultural towns by taking a boat.
