Beach Holiday Parks
Hampshire is fortunate to have 230 miles of coastline with stunning beaches along the way. From Highcliffe on the Dorset border to Chichester Harbour in West Sussex, there are many camping and caravan parks near the sea providing coastal views and seaside activities such as water sports, swimming and sailing. In fact, the area between the Hampshire coast and the Isle of Wight known as the Solent, is one of the busiest waterways in the country and no more so than during Cowes week which takes place in the second week of August each year.
Naval Museums at Gosport
Gosport is a bustling town looking on to the Solent and beyond to the Isle of Wight. It is a treasure trove of nabval history packed into its many museums.
Check out the The Royal Navy Submarine Museum, where you can take a guided tour of World War II submarine HMS Alliance or explore Holland I - the Navy's first submarine built in 1901. If you like guns, then the The Museum of Naval Firepower is a must. This is a hands on, interactive museum set in Gosport's former gunpowder and munitions depot.
For underwater history, head to the Museum of Diving. This was voted one of the top six family-friendly museums in the UK. Its fascinating exhibits cover all aspects of diving, from the world’s first diving helmet to modern military and even includes equipment used by James Bond!
